Can gastritis cause chest pain?
Disease description:
I have had chronic gastritis for several years. During my most recent episodes, I experienced chest pain as well. Could gastritis cause chest pain?
The stomach is located in the upper left abdomen, with the gastric body situated centrally in the upper abdomen. Therefore, when inflammation affects the gastric body, patients may sometimes experience chest pain. Additionally, if a patient has chronic gastritis, it may secondarily lead to gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). GERD results from the reflux of gastric or duodenal contents into the esophagus, causing mucosal injury, and is also commonly associated with prominent chest pain.
