Introduction
Astigmatic myopia can be treated through eye washing and eye-rolling exercises. Astigmatism is a type of refractive error of the eye, associated with the curvature of the cornea. When parallel light enters the eye, it fails to focus onto a single point due to differing refractive powers along various meridians. Astigmatism is classified into regular and irregular types. Clinical correction methods vary depending on the specific type of astigmatism.

In daily life, many people suffer from myopia and astigmatism. Although these conditions are not life-threatening, they can severely compromise ocular health, impair vision, and even interfere with normal learning and work. For affected individuals, the primary concern is disease management and visual rehabilitation—so how is myopia with astigmatism treated?

How Is Myopia with Astigmatism Treated?

Myopia with astigmatism cannot be effectively treated by eye-washing or eye-rolling exercises. Astigmatism is a type of refractive error related to irregular curvature of the cornea. When parallel light enters the eye, it fails to focus onto a single point due to differing refractive powers across various meridians. Astigmatism is classified as either regular or irregular. Clinical correction strategies vary depending on the type: regular astigmatism is commonly corrected with spectacles or refractive surgery, whereas high-power astigmatism may require rigid gas-permeable (RGP) contact lenses.

Irregular astigmatism typically results from corneal or lens damage and generally necessitates correction with rigid, high-oxygen-permeable contact lenses. In adolescents with myopia, astigmatism tends to progressively worsen and cannot spontaneously resolve; this is because during eye development, elongation of the axial length and non-spherical corneal surface geometry contribute to both myopia and astigmatism.

Wearing glasses in adolescence provides only temporary correction for myopia and astigmatism; definitive correction may be achieved via refractive surgery after adulthood. During puberty, emphasis should be placed on controlling the progression of both myopia and astigmatism. We hope this information proves helpful to you.
