Introduction
Hair loss caused by a bump on the head due to minor follicle damage in the scalp area will gradually improve as the injury heals and the hair follicles recover, allowing hair to regrow slowly. If trauma to the head leads to alopecia areata, immunosuppressants may be taken as directed by a physician to promote hair regrowth. However, if the injury is severe and damages the deeper layers of the scalp, causing follicular atrophy, it may result in permanent hair loss.

Whether hair will regrow after a bump on the head causes hair loss depends on the severity of follicle damage.

If hair loss results from minor follicle injury due to a head bump, hair usually begins to regrow gradually as the injury heals and the hair follicles recover. However, if the head trauma leads to a local hematoma that reduces blood supply to the follicles and disrupts their normal physiological function, it may cause the follicles to atrophy, resulting in patchy hair loss (alopecia areata). In such cases, hair regrowth may require treatment under a doctor's guidance with immunosuppressants such as cyclosporine or methotrexate.

If the injury is severe and extends into the deeper layers of the scalp, causing extensive hair loss, it may severely damage local capillaries and lead to irreversible follicle atrophy. This results in permanent hair loss, meaning hair will not regrow even after the wound has healed. In these situations, hair restoration can be achieved through hair transplantation or wearing wigs.
