Introduction
The face generally does not swell during heatstroke, but if severe heatstroke leads to a series of complications, facial swelling may occur. In cases of early or mild heatstroke, symptoms are relatively minor, and with prompt treatment, facial swelling typically does not develop. However, in severe heatstroke, excessively high body temperature can directly damage cells, leading to multiple organ dysfunction or failure and resulting in various complications, among which facial swelling may appear.

Generally, the face does not swell due to heatstroke. However, if heatstroke is severe and leads to a series of complications, facial swelling may occur.

In cases of early signs or mild heatstroke, symptoms are relatively minor, and with timely intervention, facial swelling typically does not develop. However, in severe heatstroke, excessively high body temperature can directly damage cells, causing enzyme denaturation, mitochondrial dysfunction, disruption of aerobic metabolism, and loss of cell membrane stability. This may lead to multiple organ dysfunction or failure, resulting in various complications. For example, profuse sweating during hyperthermia can cause loss of water and sodium, leading to dehydration and electrolyte imbalances, which might result in facial swelling. Additionally, severe dehydration or cardiovascular dysfunction may trigger acute kidney failure, causing water and sodium retention that can also lead to facial swelling.

Moreover, when facial swelling occurs during heatstroke, other underlying diseases such as liver disorders or heart-related conditions should be ruled out. It is recommended to seek medical attention at a hospital to determine the exact cause.
