Can you eat hot pot when you have heatstroke?
Heatstroke patients should generally avoid hot pot, as it is not only unfavorable for recovery but may also worsen the condition.
When eating hot pot, food is typically consumed immediately after being cooked at high temperatures. Additionally, poor indoor air circulation during hot pot meals can further increase room temperature. For individuals suffering from heatstroke, this can impair the body's ability to dissipate heat, thereby hindering recovery. After heatstroke, patients often experience gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea and vomiting. Consuming spicy, numbing, or greasy hot pot broth may irritate the gastrointestinal tract or lead to excessive digestive burden, slowing recovery or exacerbating symptoms.
Diet during heatstroke should be light and easy to digest. It is advisable to consume plenty of vegetables and fruits rich in water and trace elements, which help maintain fluid circulation and replenish electrolytes, thus improving the condition. Moreover, in severe cases of heatstroke, medical treatments such as applying ice packs or performing peritoneal lavage with normal saline under a doctor's guidance may be necessary.
