Does mei tea have any effect on pharyngitis?
Meicha (berry tea) generally has no effect on pharyngitis.
Pharyngitis mainly refers to acute or chronic inflammatory changes in the mucous membranes and local lymphoid tissues of the throat, causing symptoms such as swelling, pain, discomfort, difficulty swallowing, coughing, and itching in the throat. Meicha is a type of wild tea containing amino acids, trace elements, and flavonoid compounds. Drinking it in moderation may help supplement certain trace elements the body needs, but it is ineffective for treating pharyngitis, and consuming meicha does not relieve symptoms of throat inflammation.
Meicha should not be consumed excessively, as this may increase the digestive burden on the gastrointestinal tract and lead to physical discomfort, possibly causing abdominal pain, diarrhea, and other symptoms. For symptom relief from pharyngitis, herbs such as chrysanthemum, siraitia grosvenorii (luo han guo), and honeysuckle can be appropriately selected under a doctor's guidance and steeped in hot water. If symptoms are severe, prompt medical attention at a hospital is necessary.
