Introduction
Otitis media can cause sore throat, and generally, the more severe the condition, the more pronounced the throat pain. Patients are advised to promptly visit a hospital for relevant examinations and receive targeted treatment. During treatment and recovery, patients should drink plenty of warm water, maintain adequate nutrition, and consume fresh fruits and vegetables such as bananas and greens. They should also avoid noisy environments and refrain from frequently wearing headphones.

Otitis media does not cause sore throat if the inflammation has not spread; however, if the inflammation spreads, a sore throat may occur. Nevertheless, this condition affects health regardless of whether a sore throat is present, and treatment is necessary. Patients are advised to promptly visit a hospital for relevant examinations and receive targeted treatment.

Otitis media is an inflammatory condition affecting all or part of the structures including the eustachian tube, tympanic cavity, mastoid antrum, and mastoid air cells. It commonly occurs in children. Factors such as bacterial infection, excessive smoking, and the presence of foreign objects in the pharynx or ear canal may lead to otitis media.

In general, patients may experience symptoms such as ear pain, hearing loss, tinnitus, and a sensation of ear blockage. If the inflammation has not spread, sore throat typically does not occur. However, if the inflammation spreads, sore throat can develop because the middle ear communicates with the nasopharynx via the eustachian tube, and the mucous membranes of the nasopharynx and pharynx are continuous. When inflammation spreads, it can affect the pharyngeal area. Generally, the more severe the disease, the more pronounced the sore throat. Patients are advised to promptly go to the hospital for evaluations such as ear examination, vestibular function tests, and CT scans to determine the extent of the disease. Under medical guidance, antibacterial treatment may include medications such as cefixime dispersible tablets, cefuroxime axetil tablets, amoxicillin capsules, and ofloxacin ear drops. In severe cases, surgical treatments such as tympanoplasty or tympanic membrane repair may be required.

During treatment and recovery, patients should drink plenty of warm water, maintain adequate nutrition, consume more fresh fruits and vegetables (such as bananas and greens), avoid noisy environments, and refrain from frequently wearing headphones.
