Allergic rhinitis causing persistent cough at night
Continuous coughing at night due to allergic rhinitis may result from nasal secretions flowing backward into the throat. This can be improved through medication, immunotherapy, or surgical treatment.
I. Cause
This condition may occur when increased nasal secretions associated with allergic rhinitis flow into the pharynx during sleep, especially when lying flat or on one's side, thereby irritating the throat mucosa.
II. Treatment
1. Medication
Under medical guidance, medications such as chlorpheniramine maleate tablets, diphenhydramine hydrochloride tablets, or cetirizine hydrochloride tablets may be used to relieve symptoms including nasal itching, sneezing, and excessive nasal discharge.
2. Immunotherapy
Allergen extracts may also be administered under a doctor's supervision for immunotherapy, helping the body gradually adapt to allergens and reduce allergic reactions.
3. Surgery
If the above treatments are ineffective, surgical options may be considered upon medical advice. Common procedures include inferior turbinate plasty and parasympathetic nerve section.
During treatment, it is important to avoid exposure to allergens to reduce the risk of recurrence.
