What causes vomiting and diarrhea?
Vomiting and diarrhea may be caused by indigestion, gastrointestinal spasms, acute enteritis, or other reasons.
1. Indigestion
Vomiting and diarrhea may result from consuming unclean food, or from eating raw, cold, greasy, or spicy foods that lead to indigestion. If symptoms are mild, applying a warm compress to the abdomen under medical guidance may help alleviate discomfort. In more severe cases, medications such as domperidone tablets, Jianwei Xiaoshi tablets (digestive aid), or mosapride tablets may be taken as directed by a physician.
2. Gastrointestinal Spasms
If a patient consumes toxic food, such as poisonous mushrooms, or ingests food contaminated with heavy metals, the gastrointestinal mucosa may be irritated, leading to gastrointestinal spasms. This can cause symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. Abdominal massage may help relieve these symptoms.
3. Acute Enteritis
Acute enteritis may occur when the body is infected with bacteria or viruses, resulting in symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, medications such as smectite powder, vitamin B6, or levofloxacin tablets may be prescribed by a doctor for treatment.
In addition, vomiting and diarrhea may also result from bacterial or viral infections affecting the gastrointestinal tract. During treatment, it's important to replenish fluids promptly to prevent dehydration. Patients should follow a light diet, consume easily digestible and absorbable foods, and keep the abdomen warm throughout recovery.
