Are cooling fever patches effective for heatstroke?

Febrile patches or cooling patches can help relieve fever symptoms caused by heatstroke, but they do not treat the underlying condition itself. These patches work by delivering medication through the skin to dilate local blood vessels and improve circulation, thereby reducing body temperature. However, they only alleviate fever symptoms and do not address the root cause of heatstroke.

If mild heatstroke symptoms occur, applying cold compresses with ice packs can help reduce body temperature and relieve fever. Alternatively, fever-reducing medications such as acetaminophen tablets may be used under medical guidance. For more severe cases requiring medical treatment, intravenous infusions of glucose solution, normal saline, or other fluids may be administered under a doctor's supervision.

Dehydration is common after heatstroke, so it’s important to drink plenty of water or beverages that replenish electrolytes to maintain proper fluid balance. Rest is essential—avoid strenuous activities, excessive physical exertion, and prolonged exposure to high-temperature environments. If symptoms are severe or persist for an extended period, seek prompt medical attention for professional care.
