Can people with urticaria eat bread and cake?
Patients with urticaria are generally advised not to eat bread or cake.
Urticaria is a localized dermal edema caused by dilation and increased permeability of small blood vessels in the skin and mucous membranes. Clinically, it manifests as erythematous patches and wheals on the skin and mucous membranes. Urticaria is a very common condition. Its causes are multifactorial, including infections, diet, pollen, and other allergens. The main symptom is severe itching of the skin; some patients may also experience systemic symptoms such as fever, joint pain, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing.
Patients with urticaria should avoid foods containing artificial colors, preservatives, yeast, and similar ingredients—such as cookies, carbonated drinks, cold desserts, candies, pastries, bread, and beer. They should also avoid spicy and irritating foods, as well as seafood like fish and shrimp. It is recommended to visit a hospital promptly for allergy testing, followed by medication-based desensitization therapy.
Patients are advised to consume more alkaline foods rich in vitamins, such as grapes, green tea, kelp, bananas, apples, and coix seed (Job's tears).
