What causes dizziness, weakness, generalized fatigue, and stomach discomfort?
Generally, symptoms such as dizziness, weakness, generalized fatigue, and stomach discomfort may be caused by food poisoning, acute gastroenteritis, or coronary atherosclerotic heart disease. If abdominal pain is particularly prominent in the patient, it could be due to enteritis, indigestion, or abdominal pain triggered by cold exposure or irritation. During this period, monitoring body temperature is also important. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Food Poisoning
Food poisoning commonly occurs after consuming contaminated food, such as poisonous mushrooms, and can be classified into gastrointestinal-type and neurotoxic-type food poisoning. The former mainly presents with symptoms such as bloating and diarrhea, while the latter typically manifests with dizziness and fatigue. If ingestion was recent, gastric lavage or catharsis may be administered to rapidly eliminate the toxic substance from the body. In severe cases, prompt hospitalization is required, and medications such as atropine sulfate tablets or racemic anisodamine tablets should be used under medical guidance.
2. Acute Gastroenteritis
Acute gastroenteritis is an acute inflammatory condition of the gastrointestinal mucosa and can be categorized as infectious or non-infectious. Patients with acute gastroenteritis may experience symptoms including dizziness, abdominal bloating, and limb weakness. Mild cases may require no treatment or only general supportive care, whereas severe cases require medication under a doctor’s advice, such as levofloxacin tablets or montmorillonite powder.
3. Coronary Atherosclerotic Heart Disease
The most common symptoms in patients with coronary atherosclerotic heart disease include chest tightness and chest pain following physical activity, along with dizziness, weakness, and generalized fatigue. Pain is often most noticeable behind the middle or upper portion of the sternum and may radiate to the arms—especially the left arm—shoulders, back, neck, jaw, teeth, or upper abdomen. Treatment should follow medical advice, including medications such as isosorbide mononitrate capsules or nifedipine tablets.
Besides the three causes mentioned above, other possible reasons include viral influenza, menstrual cramps in women, and indigestion. When symptoms such as abdominal bloating accompanied by dizziness and weakness occur, it is recommended to seek timely medical attention to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate treatment.
