What are the causes of back pain?
Generally, back pain may be caused by overexertion, excessive body weight, periarthritis of the shoulder, cervical spondylosis, osteoporosis, or other reasons. If the above conditions occur, it is recommended to seek medical treatment promptly. Specific analyses are as follows:
1. Overexertion
Prolonged physical labor or insufficient rest can lead to overuse of back muscles and ligaments, resulting in muscle fatigue, strain, or injury, which causes pain. In daily life, adequate rest should be taken and overexertion avoided.
2. Excessive Body Weight
Obesity shifts the body's center of gravity forward, causing the pelvis to tilt forward to maintain balance. This increases the burden on the lower back muscles and spine, leading to back pain over time. Weight reduction through proper measures is recommended.
3. Periarthritis of the Shoulder
Periarthritis of the shoulder may result from chronic strain, trauma, or exposure to cold. Inflammation develops in the soft tissues surrounding the shoulder joint, and pain may radiate to the back, causing the aforementioned symptoms. It may be accompanied by shoulder stiffness. Treatment under a doctor’s guidance may include medications such as loxoprofen sodium tablets, Huoxue Zhitong capsules, or celecoxib capsules.
4. Cervical Spondylosis
Cervical spondylosis results from degenerative changes in the cervical spine, such as intervertebral disc herniation or bone spurs. These conditions may compress nerve roots or the spinal cord, thereby causing back pain. It may be accompanied by dizziness, headaches, and other symptoms. Patients should follow medical advice and use medications such as ibuprofen gel, Jingkang capsules, or eperisone hydrochloride tablets for treatment.
5. Osteoporosis
Osteoporosis may be associated with aging, hormonal imbalances, malnutrition, and other factors. It leads to decreased bone mass and disruption of bone microstructure, increasing bone fragility and susceptibility to fractures, which can cause back pain. It may also present with reduced height and kyphosis (hunchback). Treatment under medical supervision may include calcium acetate capsules, calcium carbonate D3 tablets, or calcium lactate tablets.
To prevent back pain, individuals should maintain a healthy body weight, avoid prolonged poor posture, engage in regular physical activity to strengthen muscles and improve flexibility, and maintain a balanced diet to support bone health.
