Introduction
Specific manifestations of pathological jaundice include: ① Early onset—typically appearing within 24 hours after birth; ② Rapid progression—parents may observe that the infant’s skin and other tissues quickly become discolored due to jaundice; ③ High recurrence rate—once pathological jaundice develops, a challenging issue is its tendency to recur.

Jaundice: Common causes include hemolytic disease of the newborn, neonatal infection, biliary tract malformations, and neonatal hepatitis, among others. Specific clinical manifestations are as follows:

① Early onset

In pathological jaundice, symptoms appear early—typically within 24 hours after birth.

② Rapid progression

After developing pathological jaundice, parents may observe rapid discoloration of the infant’s skin and other tissues due to bilirubin accumulation.

③ Prolonged duration

In cases of pathological jaundice, jaundice typically persists beyond two weeks in healthy, full-term infants and beyond three weeks in preterm infants.

④ Tendency toward recurrence

A challenging feature of pathological jaundice is its tendency to recur. Even after symptoms subside, jaundice may suddenly reappear—and often with increased severity compared to the initial episode.
