Can individuals with high uric acid levels consume high-calcium, low-fat milk?
Disease description:
My wife has high uric acid levels, so she pays close attention to her diet. She enjoys drinking milk. May she consume high-calcium, low-fat milk?
Elevated uric acid levels are primarily caused by excessive intake of purine-rich foods, leading to disordered purine metabolism. High uric acid levels may trigger gout; therefore, dietary purine intake must be carefully controlled. High-calcium, low-fat dairy products contain very low levels of purines and are thus suitable for gout patients. Patients should generally avoid organ meats and seafood and should engage in regular physical exercise.
