What causes urethritis?
Disease description:
Recently, I’ve been experiencing a stinging sensation in my urethra whenever I urinate. My doctor said it’s caused by urethritis. I’d like to know: what causes urethritis?
Urethritis is a disease caused by pathogenic microorganisms such as non-gonococcal and gonococcal agents—including *Mycoplasma* species and *Chlamydia trachomatis*. It is primarily transmitted through sexual contact. Main clinical manifestations include dysuria (painful urination), urinary urgency, urinary frequency, and erythema or swelling at the urethral meatus. In severe cases, purulent discharge from the urethral meatus may occur. Once diagnosed with urethritis, patients should receive antimicrobial therapy under the guidance of a physician.
