Gonococcal Urethritis Symptoms
Starting today, I have been experiencing persistent pain while urinating, frequent urination, but little urine output when going to the bathroom. When I went to the hospital, they mentioned I might have gonococcal urethritis. Could you please tell me what symptoms are generally associated with this condition?
Gonococcal urethritis is a sexually transmitted disease, and its symptoms differ between male and female patients.
Common symptoms in male patients include:
1. Urethral discharge: The most common type is yellow or green pus-like discharge.
2. Painful urination: A burning sensation or stinging may be felt during urination.
3. Frequent and urgent urination: A feeling of needing to urinate frequently, sometimes accompanied by a strong urge to urinate.
4. Redness and swelling of the urethral opening: The opening of the urethra may appear red and swollen.
5. Perineal discomfort: Pain or discomfort in the perineal area may occur.
6. In severe cases, it may also trigger reproductive system infections such as prostatitis, seminal vesiculitis, and epididymitis, which can affect sperm quality and, in severe cases, lead to male infertility.
Common symptoms in female patients include:
1. Increased vaginal discharge: It may appear purulent or bloody, accompanied by a foul odor and itching of the vulva.
2. Hematuria and dysuria: These are also common symptoms. If the condition continues to worsen, complications such as salpingitis, endometritis, and gonococcal pelvic inflammatory disease may develop, which can lead to female infertility in severe cases.
