Etiology of Guillain-Barré Syndrome
Disease description:
Recently, my husband has frequently experienced muscle weakness, accompanied by shortness of breath. His doctor diagnosed him with Guillain–Barré syndrome (GBS). What causes Guillain–Barré syndrome?
Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS) is typically triggered by infectious or autoimmune factors. Relevant literature reports indicate that a significant proportion of patients experience bacterial or viral infections within the two weeks preceding symptom onset, suggesting a strong association with infectious triggers. Additionally, autoimmune dysfunction may lead to nerve damage and impair nerve conduction, thereby causing Guillain-Barré syndrome.
