Common complications of nephrotic syndrome in children
Disease description:
My colleague's child is very young but has already been diagnosed with nephrotic syndrome. If left untreated, what complications might arise?
Common complications of nephrotic syndrome in children include infections. After onset of the disease, factors such as decreased immunoglobulin levels, malnutrition, or long-term use of glucocorticoid medications can reduce the patient's resistance and increase the risk of infection. Nephrotic syndrome leads to massive proteinuria, resulting in hypoalbuminemia and hyperlipidemia, and may also cause acute kidney failure or lead to severe hypoalbuminemia and lipid metabolism disorders.
