How to effectively treat epididymitis
Disease description:
I've been feeling a swelling sensation in the scrotum and experiencing body fever for the past couple of days, making me very uncomfortable. The doctor said it's caused by epididymitis. How is epididymitis best treated?

The treatment of epididymitis mainly includes the following:
1. General management: Patients should rest in bed and elevate the scrotum to relieve pain. Strenuous exercise and sexual activity should be avoided to reduce irritation and prevent the spread of inflammation.
2. Medication therapy:
- Antibiotics: Broad-spectrum antibiotics such as tetracycline and chloramphenicol are used for anti-infective treatment.
- Antipyretic and analgesic drugs: Such as acetaminophen or salicylates, to alleviate pain and fever.
- Traditional Chinese medicine: Formulas such as Sheng Nai Dai Zhen San (modified) and Da Bu Yin Wan may be used as adjunctive treatments.
3. Physical therapy: Cold compresses can be applied early in the disease course, switching to warm compresses after 24 hours to promote blood circulation and resolution of inflammation.
4. Surgical treatment: If an abscess forms, incision and drainage are required. In severe cases or those with recurrent episodes, epididymectomy may be considered.
