Disease description:

I am 29 years old this year. Recently, I noticed several small lumps growing in my eyes. A friend mentioned it might be a stye, and that applying vitamin E appropriately could help relieve it. May I ask the doctor what causes styes?

There are many factors that can cause a stye, which may include the following: 1. Most styes are caused by infections with Staphylococcus bacteria, particularly Staphylococcus aureus. These bacteria can enter the eyelid glands through tiny wounds or hair follicles on the eyelid, leading to infection. 2. Aseptic inflammation caused by blockage of the meibomian gland openings may also lead to secondary infection, resulting in the development of a stye. 3. Overuse of the eyes: Prolonged eye strain without adequate rest can weaken the microcirculation system of the eyes, increasing the risk of developing a stye. 4. Poor eye hygiene: Not maintaining proper hand hygiene, frequently rubbing the eyes with hands, not cleaning the eyes regularly, wearing eye makeup for extended periods without removal, and using expired cosmetics can all allow bacteria to enter the base of the eyelashes and cause infection. 5. Unhealthy dietary habits, such as insufficient intake of vegetables and fruits, can make the blood more alkaline and prone to inflammation. Regular consumption of cold, spicy, or irritating foods such as hot pot and barbecue can increase sebum secretion and raise the likelihood of developing a stye. In addition, smoking and alcohol consumption are also significant contributing factors to the development of styes.
