I am a 23-year-old female. Recently, I don't know why, but my heels have become severely dry and cracked, and they are slightly painful. May I ask what are the causes of dry and cracked heels in women?

Dry and cracked heels are usually caused by a combination of factors leading to skin dryness and excessive thickening of the stratum corneum. Causes include: 1. Dehydration due to excessively rough skin on the heels, which can also lead to bleeding and pain. Soaking feet in warm water, applying ointments or moisturizing creams can help maintain skin hydration and reduce and improve the risk of cracked heels. 2. Deficiency of nutrients. When women lack vitamins A, B, and E, blood circulation slows down and skin elasticity decreases, resulting in dry, cracked skin. 3. Climatic factors. In winter, the dry climate causes overall skin dryness, especially in areas such as the lower legs, ankles, and heels, where dehydration tends to be more severe. If moisturizing cream is not used for daily care, prolonged dehydration can lead to cracked heels. 4. Athlete's foot (tinea pedis). Fungal infection can roughen the skin on the feet, causing cracked heels. Antifungal creams can be applied locally, or oral medications may be taken under medical supervision. 5. Chronic eczema. In winter, dry skin and a weakened skin barrier, combined with repeated friction on the heels leading to keratinization and cracking, require enhanced moisturizing and skin care treatment.
