How to treat a bunion
Because of frequently wearing high heels, a bunion has developed. How should it be treated?

Hallux valgus, commonly known as a bunion, is a common foot deformity primarily characterized by lateral deviation of the first metatarsophalangeal joint, causing the big toe to tilt toward the second toe. It is sometimes accompanied by pain and difficulty walking.
Common treatment methods:
1. Wearing appropriate footwear: Choose wide-toe-box shoes and avoid high heels or pointed shoes to reduce foot pressure.
2. Using orthotic devices: Such as bunion splints worn at night, which can help adjust toe position and relieve symptoms.
3. Physical therapy: Includes heat application, cold compresses, massage, and stretching exercises, which can help reduce pain and improve joint mobility.
4. Medication: Anti-inflammatory drugs can help reduce pain and inflammation.
5. Custom orthotic insoles: Professionally customized insoles can disperse pressure on the soles of the feet and alleviate symptoms.
6. Soft tissue repair: Removal of excess bone and soft tissue, along with adjustment of ligaments and tendons.
7. Bone surgery: Such as osteotomy, which corrects toe alignment by reshaping the bone structure.
