Disease description:

My knees have been in a lot of pain lately. They are constantly painful and swollen, with a feeling of warmth inside the knee. Sometimes I can even hear a cracking or popping sound when moving them. The pain becomes especially severe when going up or down stairs, and I'm afraid to bend my legs. After visiting the hospital for an examination, I was diagnosed with knee synovitis. What other symptoms could this condition cause?

Patellar synovitis mainly manifests as inflammation of the synovial membrane inside the knee joint. The synovium is a thin membrane that lines the interior of joints and is responsible for secreting lubricating fluid to reduce friction between bones. When the synovium is irritated or injured, inflammation occurs, leading to the following symptoms:

1. Pain: Pain around or within the knee joint is the most common symptom, particularly noticeable during movement or weight-bearing.

2. Swelling: Due to the inflamed synovium producing excessive fluid, significant swelling of the knee joint occurs.

3. Stiffness: The knee joint may feel especially stiff upon waking in the morning or after maintaining a single posture for a prolonged period, with limited mobility.

4. Limited movement: Due to pain and swelling, patients may experience restricted range of motion in the knee joint, such as difficulty fully bending or straightening the knee.

5. Redness and warmth: During the acute phase, the affected area may exhibit mild redness and warmth, which are part of the inflammatory response.

6. Joint sounds: When moving the knee joint, one may hear or feel a "cracking" sound, which may be caused by fluid accumulation within the joint or cartilage damage.
