Heel pain is a symptom that can result from various causes. The main categories include the following:

1. Plantar fasciitis: This is one of the most common causes, especially among individuals who stand or walk frequently.

2. Nerve entrapment around the heel bone: When nerves pass near the heel bone, they may become compressed, causing pain, numbness, and other symptoms.

3. Heel fat pad injury: The heel fat pad is a fibrofatty cushion beneath the heel. With aging or increased physical activity, its internal structure may be damaged, leading to pain.

4. Heel spurs: Long-standing plantar fasciitis may lead to the formation of bony projections (spurs) on the underside of the heel bone, irritating surrounding tissues and causing pain.

5. Achilles tendinitis: The Achilles tendon is a strong, band-like structure connecting the calf muscles to the heel bone. Prolonged high-impact activities such as running and jumping may cause inflammation of the Achilles tendon, resulting in pain.

6. Plantar fasciitis: The plantar fascia is a thick fibrous band extending from the heel to the toes. Excessive stretching or injury can cause inflammation and pain, particularly noticeable when taking the first steps in the morning.
