Introduction
Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) is an important component of liver function tests. In female patients, the normal range is generally 50–130 U/L; in male patients, it is typically between 45–125 U/L. Values within these ranges are considered normal. Alkaline phosphatase is primarily distributed in organs such as the liver, bones, and intestines.

Alkaline phosphatase (ALP) testing is usually included during liver function tests, and the ALP value holds significant importance in evaluating liver function. What is the normal range for alkaline phosphatase?

What Is the Normal Range for Alkaline Phosphatase?

Alkaline phosphatase is an important component of liver function tests. For female patients, the normal value is generally 50–130 U/L; for male patients, it typically ranges from 45–125 U/L. Values within these ranges are considered normal. Alkaline phosphatase is primarily distributed in organs such as the liver, bones, and intestines. ALP testing is mainly used for diagnosing and differentiating diseases affecting the skeletal and hepatic systems. If a patient shows elevated ALP levels along with increased total and direct bilirubin, as well as elevated GGT (gamma-glutamyl transferase), biliary obstruction should be suspected. Further examinations such as upper abdominal color Doppler ultrasound and upper abdominal MRI are recommended to comprehensively determine the cause of elevated ALP levels.

If the biliary obstruction is caused by stones, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) for removal of common bile duct stones should be considered. Additionally, for obstructions caused by biliary tract tumors, surgical treatment should be actively pursued.

After surgery, adequate rest is essential, and a light, bland diet should be maintained. We hope this information is helpful to you. Wishing you good health and happiness.
