Introduction
Eating excessive amounts of pineapple can also cause bloating. Pineapple is a “cold”-natured fruit; overconsumption may slow gastrointestinal motility and impair digestion, potentially leading to symptoms such as abdominal distension and nausea. Additionally, pineapple contains high levels of fructose and pectin, which are not easily digested or absorbed. If bloating occurs, it is advisable to take medications that help alleviate gastrointestinal gas.

Pineapple is considered a “cold” fruit in traditional Chinese medicine. Overeating pineapple may chill the stomach, potentially slowing gastrointestinal motility and impairing digestion—leading to symptoms such as abdominal distension and nausea.

Moreover, pineapple contains high levels of fructose and pectin, both of which are poorly digested and absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, excessive intake may contribute to bloating. If bloating occurs after eating pineapple, over-the-counter medications for gas relief—such as simethicone—may be taken as appropriate. Additionally, increasing fluid intake and consuming foods that promote gastrointestinal motility (e.g., spinach) may help alleviate symptoms.
