Certain factors may allow these bacteria to enter the urethra, leading to the development of urethritis. If sexual intercourse is too vigorous, it may cause damage to the urethral mucosa. At this time, contact with gonococcal or non-gonococcal pathogens can allow them to invade through the urethral opening into the injured mucosal tissue, resulting in male urethritis.
