Introduction
After mild edema appears in the ankle area, there may be a tight or swollen sensation when wearing shoes or clothing. This can restrict movement in the ankle and impair the ability to perform normal physical exercise. The skin in the affected area may appear swollen and have reduced elasticity. When pressing on the swollen area, an indentation may remain. It is important to immediately stop taking antihypertensive medication and seek medical advice at a hospital, where proper medication use should be followed under a doctor's guidance.

Side effects of antihypertensive drugs causing ankle edema may include restricted ankle movement, a tight or swollen sensation when wearing shoes, and adverse effects on skin condition.

1. Tight sensation when wearing shoes: Adjusting the dosage of antihypertensive medication without medical guidance may lead to adverse reactions, resulting in fluid accumulation in the body's tissue spaces and causing localized edema. Mild swelling in the ankle area can cause a tight or constricted feeling when wearing shoes or clothing, though it typically does not lead to other significant problems.

2. Restricted ankle movement: However, if the edema becomes more severe, it may restrict ankle mobility and impair the ability to engage in normal physical exercise.

3. Skin condition changes: When excessive fluid accumulates in the subcutaneous tissues of the ankle, the affected skin may appear swollen and lose elasticity. Pressing on the swollen area may leave a temporary indentation (pitting edema).

It is important to immediately discontinue the antihypertensive medication and seek medical advice at a hospital. Under a doctor’s supervision, appropriate adjustments to medication can be made to prevent complications such as reduced blood volume or electrolyte imbalances. In most cases, once the underlying cause of the edema is addressed promptly, the swelling resolves within a short period of time.
