What does ovulation day mean?
Ovulation day usually refers to the day when the egg is released. For women with regular menstrual cycles, ovulation typically occurs 14 days before the next menstrual period, with the five days before and four days after considered the fertile window.
In women of reproductive age, approximately 5–6 oocytes develop simultaneously each month, but only one dominant follicle fully matures—the day this mature egg is released is known as the ovulation day. Egg maturation generally takes about 15 days, and with an average menstrual cycle of 28–30 days, ovulation usually happens around 14 days before the onset of the next menstruation. Women with irregular cycles may find it difficult to predict ovulation accurately; in such cases, ovulation test strips or ultrasound examinations can be used to monitor ovulation timing.
Couples seeking pregnancy can increase their chances of conception by having intercourse during the fertile window. Those not currently planning a pregnancy are advised to use appropriate contraception during intercourse to prevent unintended pregnancies.
