Introduction
It is normal for bones to make cracking sounds during massage, which may be due to physiological factors, but could also result from pathological causes such as calcium deficiency or chronic strain. Improvement can be achieved through general treatments or medication. If patients lack regular physical activity, their joints may become stiff, leading to cracking sounds during massage, resulting in physiological crepitus, which usually does not require special treatment.

Under normal circumstances, the cracking sound heard during bone manipulation is usually due to physiological factors, but it may also result from pathological causes such as calcium deficiency or chronic strain. These conditions can be improved through general treatments, medications, and other interventions. Specific analyses are as follows:

I. Physiological Factors

If patients lack regular physical activity, their bones and joints may become stiff. During massage or manipulation, this stiffness can lead to audible cracking sounds—known as physiological crepitus. This condition generally does not require special treatment. Patients can reduce joint noises by engaging in appropriate physical exercises such as jumping rope, jogging, or yoga.

II. Pathological Factors

1. Calcium Deficiency

When the body lacks sufficient calcium, degenerative bone changes may occur, leading to osteoporosis. This can cause cracking sounds during movement or massage. Patients may take supplements such as calcium gluconate oral solution or calcium carbonate D3 tablets under medical guidance to correct the deficiency.

2. Chronic Strain

Excessive physical fatigue may lead to chronic damage to bones and joints, causing muscle tightness around the joints. During massage, this may result in abnormal friction of cartilage. Patients should ensure adequate rest and avoid overexertion. Additionally, medications such as Shujin Jianyao Pills or chlorzoxazone tablets may be used under a doctor’s supervision.

Besides the above reasons, joint subluxation, tendonitis, lumbar myofasciitis, or osteoarthritis could also be potential causes. If patients experience additional discomfort or symptoms, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are recommended.
