How to massage for ear ringing
Generally speaking, ear ringing refers to tinnitus. Tinnitus can be relieved through massage techniques such as massaging the Yifeng point, the Tinggong point, the Ermen point, the Baihui point, and the eardrum massage. The specific methods are as follows:
1. Massaging the Yifeng Point
The Yifeng point is located behind the earlobe, in the depression between the mastoid process and the angle of the mandible. This point is a commonly used acupoint on the Triple Energizer Meridian of Hand-Shaoyang. Massaging this point can improve blood circulation in the ear area. Procedure: Place the fingertip of your index finger on the Yifeng point and gently massage in clockwise and counter-clockwise directions for 30-60 seconds each. This can be repeated 3-4 times daily.
2. Massaging the Tinggong Point
The Tinggong point belongs to the Small Intestine Meridian of Hand-Taiyang. It is located on the face, in front of the ear screen, behind the condylar process of the mandible, in a depression when the mouth is open. Stimulating this point can regulate the flow of qi and blood in the ear meridians, improve ear nerve function, and thus relieve tinnitus. Procedure: With the mouth open, gently press the Tinggong point with the fingertip of your index finger. A sore and distended sensation will be felt during pressing. Maintain moderate pressure, pressing for 1-2 minutes each time, then close the mouth and relax. Repeat this process 3-5 times and perform 2-3 sets daily.
3. Massaging the Ermen Point
The Ermen point is an acupoint on the Triple Energizer Meridian of Hand-Shaoyang. It is located anterior to the superior notch of the ear screen, at the posterior border of the condylar process of the mandible, in a depression when the mouth is open. Massaging this point helps unblock the meridians in the ear area, promote smooth flow of qi and blood, and relieve tinnitus. Procedure: Use both index fingers simultaneously to press the Ermen points. Gently massage and knead the points, applying pressure until a sore and distended sensation is felt. Massage for 30-60 seconds each time, then release. Wait for 10-15 seconds before repeating. Perform 5-10 repetitions, and carry out this massage 3-4 times daily.
4. Massaging the Baihui Point
The Baihui point is located at the intersection of the midline of the top of the head and the line connecting the tips of both ears. Massaging the Baihui point can regulate the circulation of qi and blood throughout the body, improve blood supply to the ear area, and serve as an auxiliary method to relieve tinnitus. Procedure: Place the index and middle fingers together and gently press the Baihui point with the fingertips. Maintain even breathing during the pressing, applying pressure until a mild sore and distended sensation is felt. Press for 30-60 seconds each time, then gently massage the surrounding area of the point in a clockwise direction for 3-5 circles. This can be performed 3-4 times daily.
5. Eardrum Massage
This technique involves changing the pressure in the external ear canal to produce a massage effect on the eardrum. It can regulate the pressure balance in the middle ear cavity and promote blood circulation in the ear area, thereby alleviating tinnitus. Procedure: Gently insert the index finger into the external ear canal, then gently press the tragus. Apply pressure and release repeatedly, causing changes in the air pressure within the external ear canal, thus massaging the eardrum. Each pressing and releasing action should last 1-2 seconds, and this can be repeated 10-15 times. Perform 3-4 sets daily.
Maintaining good daily habits and avoiding excessive fatigue and emotional fluctuations are important, as these factors may trigger tinnitus. If tinnitus symptoms persist or worsen, timely medical attention should be sought.
