What to do for a hamstring strain
Disease description:
I pulled a muscle in the back of my thigh while running last night. It's now extremely painful and significantly swollen. I'd like to know what to do for a hamstring strain.
First, stop all activities and rest strictly in bed. Then apply local cold compression within 24 hours. The injured area may also be appropriately wrapped with a bandage to reduce swelling. After 24 hours, remove the bandage and apply heat therapy, topical plasters, or rub with safflower oil as adjunctive treatments to promote blood circulation and facilitate the absorption of bruising. External circulation-promoting ointments can be used together with physical therapy devices for electrotherapy, or treatments such as acupuncture and moxibustion may also be applied.
