Introduction
Poor HCG doubling may be caused by biochemical pregnancy, poor embryonic development, threatened miscarriage, etc. If the embryo is confirmed viable after evaluation for threatened miscarriage, fetal protection medications such as progesterone capsules or dydrogesterone tablets may be used as directed by a physician. Targeted management can be performed accordingly. Besides the aforementioned causes, ectopic pregnancy may also lead to this condition.

Poor HCG doubling may be caused by biochemical pregnancy, poor embryonic development, threatened abortion, and other factors, which can be managed with targeted interventions. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Biochemical Pregnancy

Biochemical pregnancy, also known clinically as subclinical miscarriage, occurs when the sperm and egg unite but the resulting embryo fails to implant successfully in the uterus, leading to spontaneous termination of the pregnancy and consequently poor HCG doubling. Generally, no special treatment is required, and it typically has no significant impact on the body.

2. Poor Embryonic Development

This is often due to low quality of sperm or eggs. Even after successful implantation of the fertilized egg, poor embryonic development may occur. In such cases, although HCG testing may confirm pregnancy, HCG levels often fail to double properly. Close monitoring is recommended, and if necessary, termination of pregnancy may be considered.

3. Threatened Abortion

This commonly results from intense physical activity during early pregnancy, impairing normal embryonic growth in the uterus, or may stem from inherently poor gamete quality. Before the onset of threatened abortion, HCG levels usually double normally; however, once symptoms appear, poor HCG doubling may occur. If examination confirms the embryo is still viable, doctors may prescribe medications for fetal preservation, such as progesterone capsules or dydrogesterone tablets, according to medical advice.

In addition to the above causes, ectopic pregnancy may also lead to poor HCG doubling. Patients experiencing related symptoms should seek timely medical attention.
