I discovered during my physical examination last week that my test report showed a positive anti-SSA antibody result. What treatment is required for a positive anti-SSA antibody?

A positive anti-SSA antibody test warrants vigilance for Sjögren’s syndrome. Patients with this condition may experience symptoms such as dry mouth and dry eyes; in severe cases, rampant caries (rapidly progressing dental decay) may occur. Additionally, other autoantibody markers—such as anti-SSB or antinuclear antibodies (ANA)—may also be positive. Patients are advised to visit a reputable hospital and consult a rheumatologist/immunologist. Prior to testing, they should clearly describe their symptoms to the attending physician. Comprehensive autoimmune antibody panels and other relevant diagnostic tests should then be performed. If Sjögren’s syndrome is confirmed, treatment options—including corticosteroids and other immunomodulatory agents—may be considered.
